CHATEAU KARAMBA ~ KAFOUNTINE CASAMANCE, SENEGAL
Relax and re-charge your batteries,
breathe pure air, eat fresh produce from the garden
and fresh fish from the ocean or nearby rivers.
A quiet retreat on a plantation in the bush, both village and beach a leisurely 15-20 minutes walk away. The beach can be reached directly through a sandy bush route, where you can enjoy a drink at a small lean-to near the large Baobab tree whilst taking in the view of miles of unspoilt coastline. A 5km walk along the beach, passing 2 ancient shipwrecks, will take you to the next village.
Towards Kafountine is the fishing village where you can buy fresh fish as the boats come in. Pirogues are available for fishing trips or visiting nearby islands. The capital of the South, Ziguinchor, can be reached in 2 hours by bush taxis which leave from the village every day.

Transport from the airport - roughly a 2-hour journey from Gambia to Kafountine - can be arranged if required. Visas are not required for British nationals. You may be asked for a yellow fever vaccination certificate, and malaria prevention is strongly advised especially between May and December.
